William J. Bayles, a senior mechanical engineer is SynEnergyʼs Business Development Director. A former United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) District Commander who left the military as an Army Colonel, Bill has over 30 years of experience in engineering management, project leadership and energy/sustainability programming. His experience includes conceptual design, detailed engineering and supervising all phases of construction on projects ranging from small troop construction projects to transportation infrastructure and facilities renovations costing tens of millions of dollars.

As a Corps of  Engineers District Commander, he supervised a staff of over 900, including an Engineering Division of 160 professionals engaged in the programming, design and operation of transportation, navigation, environmental and facilities construction projects in a five-state area of the Midwest. More recently, at Peterson Air Force Base (now Space Force Base), he was responsible for proposing, developing conceptual designs, energy modeling, and programming energy reduction and sustainability projects at Peterson and at five other installations from Alaska to Greenland. As a design-builder, he won over $90 million in military construction contracts resulting in updated facilities for soldiers across the Midwest.

Early in his career, he taught upper-level mathematics courses at the U.S. Military Academy at WestPoint, New York. Bill is a registered professional engineer in Colorado, a LEED Accredited Professional and is a Fellow of the Society of American Military Engineers. He was named the Corps of Engineersʼ “Military Engineer of the Year” and a “Top Ten” Federal Engineer by the National Society of Professional Engineers in 2002.
